Statement
Carolina Mejía
I´m constantly identifying expressions and feelings, playing with the way images change when being translated from photograph to painting, altering their context, and subtracting their expression from skin color, hair, and clothes. I´m interested in the process of selecting an image that exposes feelings and alter its reality by adding a reflecting material such as copper to connect the viewer and force them to see themselves reflected in the artwork. The portraits look at the viewer inviting him to connect with them and feel the claim in the fight against the glass ceiling and the wage gap, as well as in the construction of equality in education, the labor market, household chores, and cultural matters.

Step-by-step
For me it is necessary to know the life, the needs, the history of the cities and their people to get infected, initially infect myself, and later on, infect others with the importance of coexistence. It is not possible to continue working individually. We must be aware of the needs and existence of others, we must evolve from living individually to co-living.
Through my profession and art that is pleasurable and life-giving, I want to lead viewers to rituals of participation that can support the movement towards coexistence. My work is a world of faces, expressions, and the creation of colors that provide energy for the development of collective consciousness.
My skills
I combine art with architecture, my two passions, in the latter I have master’s degrees in urban planning, innovation, and project management. There is a common factor in my two facets and is to support and defend all kinds of community groups. While as an architect I try to improve the quality of people’s lives in the cities, as an artist I try to vindicate the most disadvantaged groups with my works.
